What’s next?

Following the Service of Inauguration that took place at the Metropolitan Cathedral, members have now attended their first Initial Meetings of Synod Member. The sessions took place throughout the Diocese during the month of February and were led by Fr Eamonn Mulcahy CSSp who gave an inspiring introduction of Synods and the Church under Pope Francis, followed byProfessor Stephen Bullivant explaining about The Church in England & Wales in the 21st Century and concluded with Canon Chris Fallon's reflection on The Situation in the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

These three presentations gave a great overview of the vision and the context for our Synod 2020 and they are available online on the Synod Office official website for everyone to enjoy.

Positive reflections shared by our Parish Synod Members included: 'This first session was so inspiring - can't wait to get started now!' 'Very motivational. It helped me understand what is expected of me during the Synod period.' 'It will be imperative to make sure we engage those members of the church on the peripheries and our young families as it is for them that we need to become the Church we are called to be, they are the future.'

What's next? Synod Members will now be attending Listening & Discernment preparation sessions during the next couple of weeks. Please visit our Parish website for more updated Synod 2020 news.

Synod Members will be attending their Initial Synod Meeting this month. The meetings will focus on Context, Vision and Process in preparation for Lent’s Listening and Discernment stage. We ask the rest of our parishioners to pray with and for them and for the working of our Synod.

On Sunday the 3 February 2019, Archbishop Malcolm McMahon inaugurated Synod 2020. The Service included the words of Proclamation of Synod 2020 which will be held from 17-18 October 2020, followed by the Liturgy of Commissioning where all Synod Members made their Profession of Faith. The Service concluded with a 'Liturgy of Light and Sending,' inviting us to pray for the work to be done by the 500 members of the Synod.
